Singapore Technologies Engineering Ltd (ST Engineering) announced that its US shipyard, VT Halter Marine will build an offshore Liquefied Natural Gas Articulated Tug and Barge (LNG ATB) unit to be chartered by Shell.

Specifically, VT Halter Marine was awarded by Quality Liquefied Natural Gas Transport, LLC (Q-LNG) a contract to construct America’s first offshore LNG ATB unit, as ST Engineering said.

The ATB Tug will incorporate 5,100 horsepower and GE 6L250 MDC EPA Tier 4 main engines with Z-drives.

Furthemore, the barge will be able to carry 4,000 cubic meters of LNG.

The ship is expected to be delivered during the 1st quarter of 2020.

Earlier in November, Carnival Cruise Line, a unit of Carnival Corporation & plc, announced the signing of an agreement with Shell, to be the supplier of marine liquefied natural gas (LNG), for its two new LNG-powered ships expected to launch in 2020 and 2022 and to be homeported in North America.
