Scandlines applies new scrubber system in Denmark

Luxembourgish clean-tech company APATEQ announced that Scandlines uses its new scrub water treatment system, "MarinePaq" which cleans scrub water from the ferry’s closed-loop exhaust gas cleaner. The system has been installed in two containers stacked one on top of the other, at the harbour in Gedser, Denmark.

BC Ferries to acquire two hybrid-electric minor vessels

BC Ferries announced that it awarded Damen Shipyards Group of the Netherlands a contract to build two new minor class vessels, that are scheduled to go into service in 2020. The vessels will have a hybrid diesel electric - battery power generation and propulsion system, that uses on board electric battery power for its operation.

At the Nor-Shipping event in Oslo, on May 31st, project partners ABB, OMT, GTT, Caterpillar’s Solar Turbines, CMA CGM, its subsidiary CMA Ships, and DNV GL, presented the results of phase II of the PERFECt joint industry project. Phase II of the project looked to validate the phase I results and develop the concept to a “ready to order” stage.

Thordon to equip green box ships with COMPAC package

Thordon Bearings’ Jacksonville-based distributor Coppedge Marine has secured an order with Tropical Shipping, for the COMPAC seawater lubricated propeller shaft bearing system, destined for two 300TEU environmentally-compliant box ships under construction in China, at the Guangzhou Huangpu Wenchong Shipyard.

Wärtsilä to equip two new RoRo vessels

Wärtsilä said that it has been awarded a contract to supply controllable pitch propellers and Power Take Off / Power Take Home shaft generator systems, for two new RoRo vessels being built at the Uljanik shipyard, in Croatia and ordered by the Luxembourg based operator, CLdN Ro-Ro SA. There is an option for an additional two vessels.

MOL upgrades propellers to improve energy saving

MOL announced that its group company MOL Techno-Trade, Ltd. will start selling an upgraded version of its energy-saving Propeller Boss Cap Fins. The company said that tests of the new type PBCF on vessels in service confirmed an energy savings of around 5% compared to sister vessels not equipped with PBCF.
