DNV GL, CMIH ink shipbuilding agreement

China Merchants Industry Holding and DNV GL signed a strategic cooperation agreement during Nor-Shipping last week focusing on advancing shipbuilding in the gas carrier, offshore and special vessel segments. The two companies will work together to optimize construction processes and quality control, in order to develop vessels that meet the varying requirements of these markets.

SHI, DNV GL cooperate on new LNG carrier design

Among many agreements signed during Nor Shipping 2017 this week, DNV GL also partnered with Samsung Heavy Industries to develop new designs for LNG carriers. The Joint development project will focus on the development of two 30K LNG carrier designs, one with membrane type LNG tanks and one with type-C (pressurized) LNG tanks.

World’s first rectangular design for scrubbers

A large-scale rectangular marine Scrubber was unveiled by MHI and MHPS at the “Nor-Shipping 2017” maritime trade show in Oslo, Norway. The companies claim that the adoption of a rectangular box-shape configuration is a 'world's first' and is able to offer outstanding ease of installation in small spaces and superlative emissions treatment for high-output engines.

‘Green corridor’ to launch new LNG-fuelled design

At the Nor-Shipping trade fair in Oslo, partners of the “Green Corridor” joint industry project (JIP) presented their plan for developing a LNG-fuelled Newcastlemax design bulker operating on the Australia–China iron ore and coal trade route. The vessel is currently in the process of receiving Approval in Principle (AiP) from DNV GL.

As new building orders in larger size ranges are expected, Hyundai Heavy Industries and Lloyd’s Register announced at Nor-Shipping 2017 a joint development project to design 180k DWT class bulk carriers.

PERFECt partners prepare COGES LNG boxship for order book

At the Nor-Shipping event in Oslo, on May 31st, project partners ABB, OMT, GTT, Caterpillar’s Solar Turbines, CMA CGM, its subsidiary CMA Ships, and DNV GL, presented the results of phase II of the PERFECt joint industry project. Phase II of the project looked to validate the phase I results and develop the concept to a “ready to order” stage.

Wärtsilä announced the introduction of a fully integrated hybrid power module, combining engines, an energy storage system, and power electronics optimised to work together through a newly developed energy management system.
