Panama issues electronic BWMP approvals

The Panama Maritime Authority informs that ship-owners and ship-operators are able to upload the Ship’s BWMP online, from March 15, 2017. The BWMP will be approved electronically and electronic copy should be placed on board, and available for inspection at all times.

The ‘’Craft Risk Management Standard for Biofouling on Vessels Arriving to New Zealand’’ has been published highlighting how to comply with the new clean hull requirements and manage the risk of invasive marine species in NZ waters. From May 2018, vessels must arrive in New Zealand with a clean hull.

AMSA advises on ship emissions regulations

Australian Maritime Safety Authority issued a marine notice, in order to provide general information to shipowners, masters and crews on Annex VI of the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships. The notice focuses on MARPOL Annex VI regulations, that control emissions of sulphur oxides and particulate matter, and nitrogen oxides.

EU report: Harm caused by marine litter

European Comission's Joint Research Center issued a report concerning the damages caused by marine litter, noting that is a major global problem alongside other key environmental issues of today. Marine litter is often transported by ocean currents over long distances and is found in all marine environments, even in remote regions.

Transport Malta issues reminder on EU MRV

Transport Malta has issued a Merchant Shipping Notice in order to remind all those concerned that, by 31 August 2017, companies shall submit ship-specific monitoring plans for fuel consumption indicating the method chosen to monitor and report CO2 emissions and other relevant information for each of their ships covered by the EU MRV Regulation, to an accredited verifier for approval.
